If you're interested, you can download it from I have made a corresponding fix in the current dev snapshot. And beaTunes 5 currently does not do that. I think you are absolutely right to think that when you select a song with genre Indie Dance / Nu Disco those songs that have the exact same genre name should be ranked highest. But to a degree the match quality slider at the bottom of the settings can help with this. The weight slider does not help with tuning the similarity at all. In general, the similar genre rule will not help you selecting identical genres. When there are no other rules, there is no effect. The sliders work as weights on different rules in relation to each other. When using just one rule, turning the slider all the way up to 5, will not make a difference. The reason you see matches with the genre Alternative Rock is, because Indie Dance is related to Indie, which is often used synonymously with Alternative, which is often used synonymously with Alternative Rock. So for an EDM song, you can find another EDM song. This ontology lets beaTunes find songs that are labeled with similar genres. This is based on an internal genre ontology. The trailing (Rock) is just a hint what a top level genre for the displayed genre may be. When you see something like Indie Dance / Nu Disco (Rock), the entry for the song is in fact Indie Dance / Nu Disco. ![]() Now let me explain, what's happening here. If I have done anything to provoke this, I apologize. ![]() But please understand that I am a human being and don't respond well to commands or being yelled at-even if it's just via email. I understand your frustration and I'm sorry you are frustrated. I’ve been making so many train wrecks until now! :D Transitions are much smoother and easier to make when they’re similar - like both doubled or halved. I’ve also discovered the importance of the secondary BPM category. (Maybe this could be implemented somehow as a future feature within the app? But it’s no big deal.) I was not using this method when beaTunes froze up yesterday. I’m also able to, if I turn off genre in the filter, gather a broader range like songs that contain “tech house” “house” or “deep house.” Some of these are so close in sound anyway. The songs just seem to pop up quicker since the selection is smaller. I’ve noticed a big increase in speed when I create in iTunes a specific smart playlist for the genre of the playlist I’m building for beaTunes to use. I went nuts yesterday and made ‘2’ three hour long sets for this weekend and didn’t find any duplicates so far - even using the same song that the previous duplicate occurred. The rebuild of the database seems to have fixed the search box issue. Very good! 5.0.1 is working just fine for me at the moment. ![]()
